Latin Name: Megalops atlanticus

The “Silver King” is well known throughout the fishing community but not for it’s fillets. Instead its known for  the dynamic jumps and tail walking that is often seen when you hook into one.  Notoriously hard to hook, these bony fish will often shake a hook during their violent head shaking which is why you will see anglers release some tension on the line during aerial maneuvers by “bowing to the king” or bending forward to release some tension.  These fish are very silvery in color and can be seen everywhere between the low dissolved oxygen waters of mangroves to offshore ocean reefs.
