The bigeye emperor porgy can be found in Indo-Pacific waters including Hawaii where it is known locally as “Mu”. This fish can be found in the Lethrinidae family of which there are 39 species. The bigeye emperor is often times observed as an individual (rather than in a school) feeding on marine snails, crabs, worms and urchins typically no deeper than 100m. Spearfishermen consider them both very good to eat yet wary and hard spear. This particular specimen is a spearfishing record in Hawaii and was shot by speargun-maker Daryl Wong.
